A Guide to Museum Reopenings In The LA Area

If you are an Angelino starving for culture, you’ll be excited to know that while many Museums and Art Galleries in the LA area have had open outdoor spaces, many are beginning to reopen their indoor spaces and galleries.   Do check each museum before visiting for entry rules, ticketing and group size restrictions as the state of COVID regulations remains in flux.   Many museums are doing timed entries and require obtaining tickets beforehand. 

LACMA

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is now open, hosting a variety of new shows.   Masks are mandatory, and tickets can be obtained on the website.

THE HAMMER MUSEUM

This Westwood favorite is now open again to the public with free ticket entry.  Upcoming exhibitions include artists Monica Majoli, David Hartt and selections from the Armand Hammer Collection.

THE GETTY MUSEUM

Both the Getty Museum and the Getty Villa are now open.  A list of health and safety measures will be introduced at each location, and you must make a reservation to visit on timed entries.

THE HUNTINGTON

The first floor of the Huntington art gallery is no open, featuring the newly restored, famous piece “The Blue Boy”, by Thomas Gainsborough.  The exquisite gardens also remain open to the public.  You will need to reserve tickets online. Health measures such as masks, temperature checks, social distancing, and traffic flow will be implemented.

MOCHA

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is now open for visitors. Advance free ticket reservations are available online, with tickets released every Tuesday at 9:30 am.   All visitors must have advanced timed-entry tickets. Phone reservations are available at the MOCA Box Office by calling 213-633-5351 between the hours of 11 am-5 pm.  Face masks and social distancing are required.
